Item Sales Report

Analyze your menu item sales with the Item Sales report. See which items are most popular, when customers order them, and which employees sell the most.

Run the Report

In Ambur Cloud, run the Item Sales report to see menu items sold during a specific time period.

You must be using Ambur version 2.9.1 or above to run this report. Visit our Update the Ambur App support article to learn how to update your app.

  1. Click 'Item Sales'.
  2. Hover over the view button to load a custom preset view.

  3. Hover over the 'Time Period' button to select a preset or custom time period.

Report Summary

The Summary section gives an overview of open and closed orders for the selected date range. View menu item sales by business location, category, day of the week, or by any of the criteria mentioned below.

  1. Hover over the 'Summarize by' button and select a summary type.

    Category | Displays total menu item sales information for each menu category.

    Day of Week | Gives total menu item sales for each day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc).

    Hour of Day | Summarizes menu item sales according to the hour items were sent to the kitchen.
    Times are based on a 24-hour clock, so 0 is midnight, 12 is noon, and 23 is 11 pm.

    Location | Shows total menu item sales for each active linked Ambur location.

    Menu Period | Displays total menu item sales for 5 preset menu periods (Breakfast, Lunch, etc).

    Major Group | Summarizes menu item sales for each major group (Food, Beer, Wine, etc).

    Order Type | Gives menu item sales totals for each order type.

    Total | Shows total combined menu item sales for all business locations.

    Promotion | Summarizes menu items sales during promotions.

    Staff | Gives each individual employee’s total menu item sales.

  2. Click any table header to sort ascending or descending.
    This example shows item sales by Location.

    Ratio | Percentage the row represents of the total sales.
    Items | Total count of menu items sold.
    Gross | Menu item sales amount before discounts, tax, and tip.
    Fees | Total fees added to menu items.
    Discount | Total discount amount deducted from menu items.
    Net | Gross plus Fees minus Discounts.
    Tax | Total amount of tax charged on menu items.
    Gratuity | Tips applied to the menu items as fees.
    Tip | Total tips left on menu items after an order is closed.
    COGS | Total business cost of items sold.
    Profit | Gross minus Discount minus COGS.

Report Details

The Details section breaks down the Summary and shows every menu item that was sold.

  1. Hover over 'Add columns' to select additional table columns.

    Day of Week | Shows how many of each item was sold on each day of the week.

    Location | Breaks down how many of each item was sold at each location.

    Order Ref | Gives the unique transaction ID number assigned to each order by Ambur.

    Price | Displays the price of each item. If an item’s price changes or it is sold during a Promotion, this shows how many were sold at each price-point.

    Sent Date | Displays how many of each item was sent to the kitchen on each date.

    Sent Time | Displays the times that each item was sent to the kitchen.

    Staff | Shows how many of each item was sold by each staff member.

  2. (optional) Select multiple options to see more specific information.

Filter the Report

Use the built-in filters to get the specific data you need. When you apply filters, the report displays only the menu item sales that match those parameters.

  1. Click a filter to expand its menu.

    Most filters are defined in the Report Summary and Report Details sections above. Here are the few not covered previously:

    Menu Item | Select specific menu items for the report to display.
    Order State | View only Open or only Closed orders.
    Sent State | View only items that have been Sent or Not Sent to the kitchen.
    User Group | See the menu items sold by users in a particular user group.

  2. Select value(s) for the filter.
  3. (optional) Click ‘Reset’ to remove all filters.

Save a Custom View

Save your customized Item Sales report to quickly return to that exact view later. Once a view is saved, it can be set as the default view that opens when the report is launched.

Save a Custom View

  1. Hover over ‘Views’ and select ‘Save my search as a view’.

  2. Enter a name and description of the view.
  3. (optional) Check 'Make this my default view' to make it the default view that loads for the report.
  4. Click 'Save as view' to save the view.
Change the Default View

  1. Hover over 'Views' and select ‘Change default view’.

  2. Select a new default view for the report and click 'Save'.
